Vitamin D supplementation may protect against cardiovascular disease by improving risk factors, including high blood pressure, elevated parathyroid hormone, dyslipidaemia, and inflammation

In July 2018 researchers from Canada published their review of the medical scientific literature to assess the effect of vitamin D supplementation on cardiovascular disease risk factors. A total of 81 studies were included in the review. Results showed that vitamin D supplementation significantly reduced blood pressure levels, parathyroid hormone, C-reactive protein, total cholesterol, LDL(bad)-cholesterol and triglycerides as well as significantly increasing HDL(good)-cholesterol. These findings suggest that vitamin D supplementation may protect against cardiovascular disease through improving risk factors, including high blood pressure, elevated parathyroid hormone, dyslipidaemia, and inflammation.
