Probiotics appear to lower inflammatory markers in rheumatoid arthritis

In December 2017 researchers from Egypt, Syria, Japan and Vietnam reviewed the scientific literature to assess the effect of probiotics in rheumatoid arthritis. Nine studies involving 361 patients were identified. Research showed that the inflammatory marker was significantly lower in those taking probiotics when compared to those taking a placebo. However, there was no difference between probiotics and placebo in disease activity score.
