Stress at work appears to be a risk factor for physical health and may increase the risk of musculoskeletal pain

In February 2020 researchers from Iran published their review of the medical scientific literature to assess whether job strain (or stress at work) is a risk factor for musculoskeletal pain. A total of 21 studies were included in the review. Results showed that job strain appeared to be a risk factor for musculoskeletal pain, with the risk slightly higher in men than women. The researchers therefore concluded that job strain was a risk factor for physical health and that a psychologically healthy work environment was essential for the prevention of health problems.
