A greater adherence to the DASH diet appears to be associated with a better mental health status

In April 2019 researchers from Iran published the results of their study to assess the association between adherence to the dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH) diet and mental health in Iranian university students. A total of 240 university students (87% female, average age 22.5 years) were involved in the study. Information on mental health was collected via a general health questionnaire and information on dietary intake via a food frequency questionnaire. Results showed that the greater the adherence to the DASH diet, the better the mental health of the university students. Further research is required to confirm these findings.
