A regular and moderate caffeine intake may reduce depression and the risk of suicide in women

In June 2019 researchers from the Republic of Korea published the results of their study to assess the relationship between caffeine intake and suicide risk according to gender. A total of 80,173 individuals were involved in the study. Results showed that in both men and women with suicidal thoughts, the suicide risk was highest in those who consumed four or more cups of coffee a day. However, once the age, depression and sleep problems were taken into account, the suicide risk decreased in women with an intake of 1-4 cups of coffee per day, whereas no change was observed in men.
