Pilates exercises may improve quality of life of individuals with chronic kidney disease

In February 2019 researchers from Iran and the USA published the results of their study to assess the effect of Pilates on the quality of life of individuals with chronic kidney disease. 50 individuals with chronic kidney disease were divided into two groups; 25 undertook modified classic Pilates exercises three times a week for a 12-week period whilst 25 individuals acted as a control group. A Quality of Life Short Form questionnaire was completed by all individuals at the beginning of the study and two months after completion of the exercise programme. Results showed that there was a significant increase in the Quality of Life scores following the exercise programme when compared to the control group.
