In April 2018 researchers from Iran published the results of their review of the medical scientific literature to assess the effect of ginger on the management of obesity. Results showed that whilst experimental studies supported the weight reducing effect of ginger extract or powder, four small studies involving obese individuals showed that ginger either had no effect or only a slight effect on body measurements or composition. In view of the small number of studies identified, the researchers feel that further research is warranted as ginger may well increase the rate of calorie and fat burning, stop the absorption of intestinal fat and storage of fat and control appetite.
