The MIND diet substantially slows cognitive decline in the elderly

In September 2018 researchers from Australia published their review of the scientific literature to assess the role of nutrition in cognitive function and brain ageing. They concentrated on the Mediterranean diet, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, and Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay (MIND) diet. Results showed that a higher adherence to a healthy dietary pattern was associated with preservation of brain structure and function as well as slower cognitive decline. However, the MIND diet was seen to substantially slow cognitive decline, over and above the Mediterranean and DASH diets on their own.
